Rare chocolate (or tea) box made of boiled cardboard or papier-mâché dating from the late 19th or early 20th century.
The whole measures 32cm long and 22cm high, the head of the elephant is removable and includes a surprise box...
Good condition, quite remarkable considering the age and material of this box.
The shape of the elephant strongly resembles the Côte d'Or logo "A l'éléphant" from 1883, a Belgian chocolate factory that was located in rue des Chapeliers in Brussels, a logo discovered by Charles Neuhaus.
Also possible a tea box for the advertisement "L'éléphant d'Or" ....
