Biography:
Jef Verbrak (1924 - 2007) was a Belgian painter and teacher at the Académie des Beaux Arts.
Having explored different painting styles and techniques throughout his career, he is best known for his abstract works. His work is considered to be part of the Lyrical Abstraction movement and also Brutalism.
Verbrak's works are characterised by a strong presence of colour, texture and light. He is said to have been influenced by artists such as Georges Mathieu and Pierre Soulages.
Jef Verbrak has exhibited in numerous galleries in Belgium and abroad. He has also taken part in group exhibitions such as "Abstraction Lyrique en Belgique" in 1985.
