The "Sommerso" (submerged in Italian) consists of superimposing layers of glass by successively passing the object in different melting glass crucibles. This process makes it possible to obtain precise and subtle color combinations. It is in the 50s that this age-old technique will radically modernize when young designers seize it. Manufactures such as Mandruzzato or Segusi Verti d'Arte develop a sleek style that is more reminiscent of Scandinavian aesthetics than the Venetian tradition (during the same period Swedish publishers such as Kosta or Orrefors will produce similar pieces).
