Biography:
Abraham Palatnik was born in 1928 in Natal (Brazil), Brazilian artist, one of the pioneers of kinetic art (Op'Art).
At the age of four, he left Brazil with his family to live in Tel Aviv. There he studied physics and mechanics at a technical school, then painting, drawing and aesthetics at the Tel Aviv Municipal Art Institute.
At the age of 20, he returned to Brazil and settled in Rio de Janeiro. At first close to artists like Ivan Serpa, Lygia Clark, Franz Weissman and Ferreira Gullar, with whom he formed the Grupo Frente, he quickly gave up painting to embark on the design of kinetic and light electrical installations.
His invention was presented at the first São Paulo International Art Biennial in 1951.
Some of his works are housed at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston and the Museu de Arte in São Paulo.
He died of COVID-19 on May 9, 2020 in Rio de Janeiro.
